Bio

Brad Schmit enters his sixth season as the head coach at Central Wyoming College. Schmit is the program’s all-time leader in wins, the longest-tenured head coach in the program’s history, and is coming off of an 18-win season.  During Schmit’s tenure, players under his leadership have moved on to every level of basketball from NCAA DI, NCAA DII, NCAA DIII, and NAIA.

Before taking over the leadership role at Central Wyoming College, Schmit spent six years on staff at Montana State University Billings (NCAA DII). He served as the assistant coach for four seasons and the associate head coach for two seasons. His six years on staff saw MSUB qualify for the GNAC conference tournament four times. He worked with the current head assistant at the University of North Dakota, Jamie Stevens.

Prior to MSUB, Schmit was on staff at his alma mater, Morningside University, serving as the assistant coach/recruiting coordinator. Schmit joined the Mustang coaching staff following a decorated playing career in which he finished as the school’s all-time leading scorer and most prolific 3-point shooter in the history of the college. In 10 seasons as a player and a coach for Morningside, Schmit compiled a 193-126 record (117-73 as a coach) including three NAIA National Tournament appearances, three Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) titles and a GPAC Conference Championship.

As a player, Schmit was a four-year starter for the Mustangs. Schmit received all-American accolades following his junior and senior seasons and was named to the National Tournament team. Schmit was inducted into the Morningside College Hall of Fame for his playing career in the fall of 2017.

Outside of his playing and coaching accolades, Schmit has built one of the premier basketball camp organizations in the country. Founded in 2006, Midwest Elite Basketball (MEB) just completed its 18th summer conducting basketball camps. Since its inception, MEB has worked with over 650 high schools, impacted over 15000 athletes, and has an established network of over 100 college coaches.

Schmit graduated from Morningside University in Sioux City, IA with a BA in Business Administration. Furthering his education, he earned his Master's Degree from Wayne State College in Organizational Management and Sports Recreation.

Schmit married his wife Jacque in 2015, and they have three young boys, Preston (7),  Jacob (5), and Silas (2).
