Rustlers Lose Double Header to Casper

Rustlers Lose Double Header to Casper

Women:   Casper 78   Central 49

Men: #12 Casper 102  Central 97

Central basketball teams were beaten by visiting Casper Wednesday night at Rustler Gym.  The women fell behind early and couldn't battle back.  Unfortunately, injuries and foul trouble hampered the lady's team all game long.  The men battled the #12 Casper Thunderbirds the entire game, but couldn't seal the deal.

The Rustler women were outscored by North Region 9 leading Casper in all four quarters.  They were down 11 at half and a 19 to 10 Casper third quarter removed the doubt.

Essy Latu led the Rustlers in scoring with 25.  She was the only Rustler in double figures.  Rylee Burmester scored 5 points and had 6 rebounds before fouling out.  Paulani Tarawa was held to four but left the game in the first half with an injury.

The men's game was another battle.  After dropping their first game to Casper by 46, the Rustlers came out aggressive and made the #12 T-Birds work for every basket.  Central held a nine point lead with a couple minutes to go in the first half, but a 13 to 2 run by Casper gave them a two point lead at half.  Central would again take a lead late in the 2nd half only to see Casper heat up from the arc and find an opening in the zone defense to retake the lead and go to 7-0 in league play.  Foul trouble down the stretch hurt the Rustlers.  Casper would hit 27 of 38 free throws in the game.

Devin Rottweiler, who just signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Emporia State in Kansas, led the Rustlers in scoring with 23.  David Simental scored 19, while Jacob Smith added 17 off the bench.  Darius Guinn had 18 points and 6 assists.
