Rustlers Lose Double Header to Gillette

Women:  Gillette 59   Central 43

Men:       Gillette 100    Central 92

Central basketball teams were beaten by Gillette College Saturday in Gillette.

The Rustler women led Gillette 16 to 13 after one period, but were outscored in the 2nd and 4th quarters 18-8 and 15-6.  They struggled committing 28 turnovers in the game.

Alyzae Roberts was the only scorer in double figures for CWC, as she came off the bench and scored 12 during her 25 minutes of court time.  Paulani Tarawa was held out of the game by an injury suffered last Wednesday against Casper.

Coach Lindsey Fearing was not happy with the turnovers stating, "Turnovers killed us, yet we were still in the game until late."   She also praised Roberts' 12 points, "Zay stepped up today, I thought she had a solid game."

The men's game saw Gillette jump out to an early lead and hold it.  Central did mount a couple of comebacks that got them within 1 and 2 in the second half, but couldn't get on top and fell for a fourth straight game.  Central had the lead only one time, midway through the first half.

Coach Brad Schmit said, "Gillette came out knocking down 3's and playing with a ton of energy.  Our guys were not prepared from the jump and couldn't get it going throughout the game.  It was a disappointing effort after how well we played against Sheridan and Casper last week."

Darius Guinn scored a new career high 27 to lead the scoring.  He hit 3 three pointers and was 8 for 8 from the line.  David Simental scored 26 going 5 for 7 from the arc, and teammate Jacob Smith added 12.

*Men's Notes

  • Central's Men are 3-5 in league play, and 8-15 overall.

*Women's Notes:

  • Central is 2-6 in league play, and 8-15 overall.
  • Rylee Burmester was 1 of 2 from the free throw line, but the one was enough to make her the modern day record holder for most free throws made by a Lady Rustler.   She is also a two sport athlete and missed the first four or five games of each season.
