Rustler men split at Mustang Invitational

The Rustlers spent the Thanksgiving Holiday in Rock Springs, Wyoming, competing in the Mustang Invitational against Planet Athlete and USU Eastern.  Irshaad Hunte continued to dominate the paint against Planet Athlete, as he had 28 points on 92% shooting from the floor and 86% from the line.  Hunte also had 11 rebounds.  Marquis White added 14 points and Broc Finstuen had 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the Rustlers.

"I thought we came out and definitely looked like we ate too much turkey yesterday!  We played harder and focused more as the game progressed.  I think that right now focusing for an entire game is our biggest challenge.  We talk a lot about it and how important it is, but we still have not been able to carry that over to the court.  Luckily we have some pretty talented guys so sometimes we can just get by on that.  The part I am trying to get them to understand is the big picture and how important putting a full 40 minute game together is when we get into conference play.  We are better than we were early in the season so really all I can ask is that we keep improving."  -Coach Nelson

The Rustlers had a defensive let down as they fell to USU Eastern, 85-94.  Devon Colley led all scorers with 26 points, Henry Tanksley had 15, Broc Finstuen 14 and John Villanueva added 10.  "We have to do a better job defensively in order to beat good teams.  I thought that we played hard but just had too many little breakdowns and did not finish plays well enough.  Like last weekend we dug ourselves a hole in the first half.  Also like last weekend, we fought hard to come back, but fell short and made too many mental errors down the stretch.  We will get back to work this week and prepare for a tough and scrappy Colorado Northwestern team."  -Coach Nelson
