Rustlers defeat CNCC in nail-biter

The Rustlers record improved to 8-2 over the weekend, as they defeated Colorado Northwestern (57-55) in Rustler Gymnasium.  It was a defensive battle, as both teams were able to hold their opponent to well under their scoring average.  Central is averaging 94 points per game and Colorado Northwestern is averaging 80 points per game.  It was a completely different game than the first meeting between the two teams.  Central scored 94 points on 30 free throw attempts, while committing only 9 turnovers.  In this meeting between the two aggressive teams, the Rustlers only shot 11 free throws and turned the ball over 25 times.  Leading scorers for the Rustlers were Irshaad Hunte with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Henry Tanksley and Baris Ulker each with 13.

"This was a different game for us than we've had this year.  We started off really fast offensively, but then sort of lost our rhythm.  During the week we focused a lot on the defensive end of the floor and thankfully we carried that over to the game, as we struggled offensively.

I was really happy with how we had some guys step up and play a different role than they've had thus far.  Both of our point guards off the bench, Jamison Washington and Brady Fullerton, stepped up and played well when Devon Colley got in foul trouble.  Both of those guys were key in us coming away with a win."  -Coach Nelson

The Rustlers will take on Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne on Tuesday, December 5th at 7:00pm.
