Central Wyoming College forward, Irshaad Hunte, has become the first Rustler from the 2017-18 team to ink his NCAA Letter of Intent.  Hunte has signed his letter of intent to play at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi under head coach Willis Wilson.

Irshaade Hunte talked about his decision to sign with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

"When I took my visit to Corpus Christi it was thrilling to me" Hunte said. "I had never been to Texas before, but when I landed I immediately felt the love from the team as well as the coaches. The welcoming feeling pretty much sealed the deal for me. Once I signed my letter of intent it was the best feeling I have had in a very long time!"

Hunte, a 6'8'' forward from Toronto, Ontario, has had a standout career as a Rustler. For his career Hunte averaged 15.8 ppg and 8.2 rpg while shooting 58.2% from the field and 76.4% from the free throw line. Hunte's sophomore year was a record setting one that saw him become the modern day leader in career rebounds (492) and career free throws made (269). Hunte also moved into second place in the modern day career scoring list with 947 points and second place on career blocked shots list with 47. During his sophomore season he set the modern day single season mark for rebounds (258) and free throws made (136). Hunte was a major part of 44 victories over the past two seasons which is more wins than any other men's basketball student-athlete has had since men's basketball returned to Central Wyoming College in 2009.

When reflecting back on his time with CWC Hunte said "Coming to this school has been the best thing that has happened to me. It has helped my career grow as a basketball player and as a young man. I am going to miss CWC but am excited to start my new journey in Texas."

Central Wyoming College Head Coach Jack Nelson said, "Iggy has been great to coach over the last two years. It has been so much fun to watch him grow, both on the court and off. He has come further as a player in two years than maybe any other guy I have had the chance to coach. That being said he still has an extremely high ceiling with tons of room for growth. I have no doubt that he will continue to have a great career with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Islander coaching staff are getting a special player and an even better person."
