Rustler's Fall Short to WNCC in a Wild One, 111-106

The Rustler Men's Basketball team took the court for the first time under Head Coach Brad Schmit's leadership taking on the #14 ranked Western Nebraska Cougars. The youthful group of CWC players battled the defending Region IX champs from the opening tip until the final buzzer, eventually falling short 111-106.

Both teams played fast and free the entire contest. With a combined 161 shot attempts, 64 3-pt attempts, and each team scoring over 50 points each half, the packed Rustler gym got an offensive show.  Five players from each team scored in double figures, with the leading scorer of the game being CWC's own David Simental (27).

The Rustler's took their first lead of the game 67-65 with 15:37 remaining. From that point on in the game the largest lead held by either team was 5 points until the 2 minute mark. Down the stretch the Cougar's rallied behind their five sophomores making timely shots from Bryce Sanchious (25 points) and Martin Roub (15 points).

"I couldn't be more proud of the way our guys played. They embodied what our program is going to be about.  The toughness, team play, competitive spirit, and confident play are all areas we have preached since our opening practice back in September. If we continue improving as individuals and as a group, we will compete with any team in the region or country," commented Coach Schmit on his team's performance.

NEXT UP: Central Wyoming College (0-1, 0-0 Region IX) will host #3 ranked College of Southern Idaho on Saturday, November 3rd at 3:00 MST. This will be second straight ranked opponent the Rustler's will face.
