CWC Basketball This Week

The Rustler men's basketball team traveled to Mile City, Montana, for their first game of 2019.   A slow start found the Rustlers down 43 to 24 at half time. A much better shooting second half saw CWC get within 2, but, not enough to get past the Pioneers who won 81 to 76.  Coach Brad Schmit after the game: "The game was a tale of two halves. After three weeks off between games we really struggled offensively in the first 20 minutes. After the guys settled into the game the second half was much better. The reality is it's hard to win college basketball games shooting under 50 percent from the FT line and only handing out 6 assists. Overall I'm proud of how the guys battled back, but we have struggled with consistency all year and today was no different."

The Rustlers were led by David Simental who poured in 28 points.  He hit four three's and had six rebounds. James Woods added 14 with 13 coming from Darius Guinn who had 7 rebounds and 3 assists.    CWC was a dismal 12 of 25 from the line, a far cry from the team's 72% average on the season. The Rustler men are 5 and 10 on the year and begin Region 9 play Wednesday.

Both Rustler basketball teams will be on the road Wednesday, January 9th, when they go to Casper College.  For the women, it will be their first game since December 19th. The Lady Thunderbirds are the defending Region 9 Champions and are 10-4 on the season.   The Casper College Men are ranked 11th in the nation in the latest NJCAA poll and are 15-1. They have won 12 straight. Former Rustler Broc Finstuen is on the Casper roster averaging 11 points and nearly 7 rebounds a game.

Away games usually can be seen via a link posted to the Rustler Radio or CWC Athletics facebook page each game day.   Also each sports' specific facebook and twitter pages.
