Schmit Announces 2019-20 Men's Basketball Schedule

With a full slate of 30 regular-season contests for the 2019-2020 season on Monday, CWC men's basketball head coach Brad Schmit revealed the Rustlers' schedule.  Of the 30 contests scheduled, 28 of those games will take place against NJCAA DI opponents. "Prepping the guys for the Region 9 tournament is our ultimate goal. The only way to accomplish this is by playing the best competition we can," commented Coach Schmit.

The Rustlers' will start the season with an extremely difficult schedule playing 9 of their first 11 games on the road, all during the month of November. With games against Western Nebraska, NJC, Snow, CSI, and Salt Lake, the team will be tested early and often.  Living on the road for the first month of the season will pay off on the back end.  December brings nothing but home crowds and great basketball, with four straight games at home against NJC, Colorado Northwestern, Rexburg United, and College of Southern Idaho.

"Our non-region schedule is going to challenge us in so many ways. The difficulty of winning games on the road, playing nationally recognized programs, and getting off to a good start to the season, will all be areas we address early in the pre-season. I felt with multiple starters back and the goals we have as a program, playing tough competition early would help us later in February and March," said Schmit.

After Christmas break the Rustlers' will open the 2020 portion of the season at home against non-conference opponent Miles Community College. From there, 14 Region IX games will await the team.  "I see the conference being much more balanced this upcoming season.  Casper and Sheridan dominated everyone in region last season. I don't see any one team being head and shoulders above anyone else. The league will have a ton of depth, new talent, new coaches, and hopefully a new region champion."
