CWC Falls to NJC In Physical Game, 78-75

The Rustler men took on their third Region 9 south opponent to start the season. This time traveling to Sterling, CO to play Northeastern Junior College (NJC).

The Rustler men came out in the first half playing sluggish and sloppy falling behind by double digits. At the twelve minute mark of the first half, CWC had more turnovers than points. Settling into the game over the final ten minutes of the first half saw CWC come back to a 32-34 deficit at halftime. "I don't know why we have started games slow, but tonight the first ten minutes of the half were embarrassing. Not executing our offense, turning the ball over, and simply not making college level plays on the offensive end," stated Coach Schmit on his teams first half performance.

The second half saw momentum swings from both teams. CWC held the lead 63-61 with nine minutes remaining. After costly missed shots, defensive lapses, and turnovers, the Rustler's found themselves down 73-63 after a 12-0 spurt from the home team. With 4:30 to play things were looking bleak. Over the next 3:30 though CWC would charge back to within one possession. In the last minute a timely 3-pointer from Jerroda Briscoe cut the lead to 1, 72-71. After two made free throws from NJC, James Woods had a shot at the buzzer to tie the game. Unfortunately it fell short along with the Rustlers, 78-75.

"NJC's toughness and rebounding were too much for us tonight. Giving up 20 plus offensive rebounds is unacceptable. As a collective group we have to improve our physical play. We will watch film, get after the guys, and hopefully play better for our home opener this weekend." Commented Coach Schmit on the game.

The Rustler's will host Snow College (#20 NJCAA) on Saturday, November 9 at 4:00 PM. It will be the home opener for the men's team and their solo home game in November.
