Colorado rodeo fares well for two CWC contestants; two buckles come home

It was a good weekend for two Central Wyoming College rodeo contestants as they won their events. Colton Miller and Piper Naylon both brought home buckles from the Colorado State University rodeo this past weekend.

Naylon won the goat tying event with a time of 7.4 seconds in the long go-round and 7.6 seconds in the short go-round this places her in twelfth place for the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings.

"Piper has worked hard throughout her time here and it was great to see her come out on top," said Drew Schrock, rodeo coach. "She maintained her head where others didn't and it proved well for her."

Miller won the saddle bronc riding with a score of 81 in the long go-round and 70 in the short go-round bumping him to the number one spot for the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings.

Also placing in the saddle bronc event was Brady Thurston who took tenth with a score of 56 in the long go-round and a no score in the short go-round.

"With Colton Miller winning five rodeos in the row and moving up the leader board, he is doing everything right," Schrock said. "With two rodeos left the men's team still has a chance to move up the leader board and making it to finals but everybody has to come together to reach that goal."

The men's team tallied 160 points, putting them in eighth place at the rodeo and are placed seventh in the region with 2,158.33 points. Chadron State College is in first with 3,995 points, followed by Gillette College with 2,630 points.

The women's team placed fifth at the rodeo with 150 points putting them in tenth place for the region with 450 points. Gillette College is first with 2,371.63, followed by University of Wyoming with 1,695 points.  

"This was a rough rodeo for us as far as team points," Schrock said. "However I'm not disappointed in anybody and the way they performed. We had some horse issues but we know what we need to do at practice to be ready for the next rodeo."

The next rodeo will be in Casper, Wyoming April 15-17.
