Thurston places at first rodeo of the season for rustlers

Brady Thurston had a good start to the fall rodeo season; the only Rustler to place in the top five in two different events.

Thurston placed third in the saddle bronc riding. Although he only scored a 69 overall for both days luck was on his side as other bronc riders failed to make a score in the final round on Sunday. Top rider for the weekend was Tayte Clark of Sheridan College who was able to score both days.

"I'm impressed with Brady's performance this week," said Drew Schrock, rodeo coach. "Last week he received a shoulder injury during practice so to be able to come in with an injury and place in the top five is impressive."

In his next event, team roping, Thurston and partner Bryce Sturman placed fourth overall. In the long go-round the team received a time of 10.9 seconds but came back in the short go-round with a little longer time; 14.0 seconds.

In the steer wrestling event four CWC cowboys were only seconds from making the short go-round. With only the top ten making it to the final round the four cowboys placed consecutively starting at the 11th position. Danny Huxtable was the leader with a time of 9.7 seconds; only 1.1 seconds away from tenth place. Teigen Finnerty followed with 11.1 seconds, with only one second more Dalton Burgener had 12.1 seconds on the clock and bringing up 14th was Thurston with 13.9 seconds.

"This team is going to do well this season, I think once they get some of the freshman jitters out they will continue to improve," Schrock said. "They all performed well for their first rodeo. All the steer wrestlers are on the point's team and were mere seconds away from making the final round; I know they will continue to improve at each rodeo. This week we will work on timed event horses and their box work, along with mental preparation to make sure each one of them understands that they are capable of competing at this level. We look forward to the next rodeo and what's to come."

The next rodeo for the fall season will be in Sheridan, Wyoming September 23-25.
