Rustlers compete at first Spring Rodeo
The CWC Rodeo Team competed at the LCCC College Rodeo this past weekend in Cheyenne, WY. The women's team placed fifth, while the men's team placed third.
The women were led by local cowgirl, Josee Vogel, winning the short round of the goat tying event with a 6.7 second run. Josee placed fourth in the average on two runs after having a 7.8 second run in the long roud. Kassie Kautzman had a blazing 2.1 second run in the long round, placing her first in that round of the breakaway roping event, but missed her calf in the short round dropping her to sixth in the average on two head.
The men's team dominated the steer wresting event this past weekend placing first, second, and third in both long round, short round and average. Brady Thurston brought the title back to Fremont County after winning the long round with a 4.7 second run followed by a 5.0 in the short round. Taylor Davidson placed second in the long round with a 5.1 second run, and won the short round with a 4.9. Nate Weyrich placed third in both rounds with a 6.8 and a 5.6 second run, and third in the average. Jace Berger also placed fifth in the long round and sixth in the average, followed by local cowboy Danny Huxtable who placed seventh overall. Thomas Davis made two really nice rides in the bareback event, scoring 72 in the long round, but received a no score in the short round because he failed to make the horse out at the start of his ride.
Coach Schrock was pleased with the overall performance of the team saying, "We had seven out of the ten points team make it to the short round and five of them gain points in the average. As a whole, I thought our horse worked really well and that we were able to cease the the opportunity to make good things happen when the time presented itself. That doesn't mean we don't have some things we need to work on during our two weeks before we go to Gillette on March 16th, but the team is fired up and ready to get back to the practice pen."
