Rustler results from CSU Rodeo

The Central Wyoming College Rodeo Team competed at its eighth (of ten) regional rodeos this past weekend in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Rustlers only had a handful of athletes make it back into the championship short-round on Sunday, putting them further behind in the team race for both the men's and women's teams.

In the bareback riding, Thomas Davis won the short-round with the highest marked bareback ride of the weekend with a 79.  He ended up 3rd in the average after scoring a 68 on his first horse for a combined score of 147 on two. Brady Thurston covered two broncs in the saddle bronc riding placing 4th in the long-round with a 74, followed by a 71 in the short-round placing him in 6th and 7th (6th in the average). Neale Jones was the highest ranking steer wrestler for the Rustlers, placing 6th in the average after splitting 3rd and 4th in the long-round with a 4.5 second run followed by a 7.2, placing him 6th in that round and 6th in average. Taylor Davidson made it back, but missed catching his second steer and ended up 8th in the average.

Kassie Kautzman made it back to another short-round of the breakaway roping this spring with a 3.1 second run, which was fast enough to split the 3rd and 4th place positions. She followed that with a 3.2 run in the short round, placing her in 5th in both that round and the average. In the barrel racing event, Karson Bradley also made another short-round, but was just out of getting points in both rounds and the average, but did place 8th over all.

"As a whole it was a very disappointing weekend," said Coach Schrock. "I'm not disappointed in the team, it's just disappointing in the outcome of the rodeo. We typically do pretty well at the CSU Rodeo, but this year it wasn't meant to be. I feel like the team went down there with the same focus as they have all year, but maybe let their nerves get in the way. This is a good bunch of kids that know how to work their butts off, and I'm confident they will be bringing some intensity to practice this next couple weeks before we travel to Casper April 20-22."
