Davis wins All-Around Title at Casper

The Rustlers traveled to Casper this past weekend to compete at the ninth of ten regular season rodeos. Thomas Davis brought home the Men's All-Around title and trophy saddle, along with a buckle for winning the steer wrestling event.

Thomas placed fifth in the average of the bareback riding with a score of 60 in the long round, followed up by a score of 76 in the short round, placing him in the fourth position for that round. He threw his steer in the long round in 5.1 seconds to place second, followed by the fastest run of the weekend of 4.1 winning the short round, and the steer wrestling title for the rodeo. Taylor Davidson gathered up some much needed points in the steer wrestling as well. He made it back to the short-round in tenth place with a 6.4 second run, and improved his time on his second run with a 5.2, placing him third in the short round, and fifth in the average.

Deni Lou Nicholls was the only one on the women's team to make it back to the championship round on Sunday. She showed up in grand fashion after having the fastest time of the long round of the breakaway roping with a 2.4 second run. She then had a 2.8 second run in the short round, which was fast enough to split second and third in that round, and a second place finish in the average.

"It wasn't the weekend that we were anticipating as a team, but I am really excited for Thomas, Taylor, and Deni Lou. Thomas has been leading the All Around Race for the season since last fall and it was neat to see him win the title at this past weekends rodeo. He didn't draw the best horse in the long round of the bareback riding, but he made the best of it and came back with a great ride in the short-round. He did draw two good steers and was able to capitalize on both of them. Taylor has been in the top two positions in the steer wrestling all year and has been dealing with a shoulder injury the past few weeks so it was good to see him get some much needed points because the steer wrestling is a tight race that will come down to the wire next weekend in Laramie at the UW Rodeo. I've been waiting for Deni Lou to put a couple runs together like she did this past weekend, she ropes really well and rides really nice horses so its no surprise that she did well and I hope this helps build her momentum going into our last regular season rodeo next weekend."  -Coach Schrock
