Lady Rustlers split at Mustang Invite

The lady Rustlers opened the weekend with a win against Colorado Northwestern 86-79. The Rustlers pulled off the comeback and got the win against the CNCC Spartans Friday despite being down 11 at halftime. The Rustlers fought back in the third quarter and outscored the Spartans 26-16 to put the Rustlers down one and the momentum of the game to open the fourth quarter. The two teams battled it out the last 10 minutes, with the Rustlers coming away victorious.

The Rustlers were lead by Rylee Burmester with 29 points on 11 for 16 shooting and went perfect from the free throw line. Paulani Tarawa added in 19 points on seven of 14 shooting. Alyzae Roberts and Marissa Arnold chipped in eight a piece, with Amanda Mitchell adding in seven points for the game.

"We did not have a good first half," said head coach Ken Swartz. "We had a good forceful conversation at halftime and came out and played our best half of basketball. We shot well, rebounded well and defended well. All things we need to do to win."

The Rustlers lead the entire game and got up by 14 saturday against the Utah All Stars. The Utah All Stars hit a well contested three pointer as time expired, the Rustlers lost  80-79. The Rustlers shot 44 percent from the field and 73 percent from the free throw line for the night and outrebounded the All Stars 58-32.

Paulani Tarawa and Rylee Burmester, both recorded a double-double. Tarawa had 29 points and 14 rebounds on 11 of 24 shooting. Burmester had 24 points and 10 rebounds on nine for 13 shooting. The two took 37 of the teams 70 shots and shot 74 percent from the field. Marissa Arnold added in seven points with Myriah Fauber adding in five points and five rebounds.

"Overall we played a really good game," said head coach Ken Swartz. "The All Stars are loaded with talent and the shot they got at the end was a well contested three, they made a really tough shot."

The lady Rustlers continue their season at home hosting their classic beginning Friday Dec. 1 at 5:30 pm.
