Lady Rustlers 2-0 on the Road

The Lady Rustlers went 2-0 this weekend at the GW Mechanical Classic at Casper College against Air Force Prep and Region IX opponent Otero Junior College.

Just like any first game, nerves got the best of the Lady Rustlers.  They had 22 turnovers, but they held on to get the win with the score of 73-62. The Lady Rustlers had five in double digit scoring for the first win. Essy Latu with 13 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds; Paulani Tarawa with 10 points and 5 rebounds; Leighanna Shoulderblade with 10 points and 6 rebounds; Kiana Walker with 11 and 4 assists, and Alyzae Roberts with a big night, just one rebound away from a double double as she had 16 points and 9 rebounds. The Lady Rustlers held Air Force Prep to 28% from field and 7% from the 3 point line.

The second night was better in terms of nerves for the team, as they only had 15 turnovers but also forced 15 as well. The second half was huge for the lady rustlers as they outscored Otero 58-27. The Lady Rustlers also had four in double digit scoring for the night. Paulani Tarawa with 21 points and 5 rebounds; Brayle Crosman with 15 points, 4 assists and 5 rebounds; Leighanna Shoulderblade, who hit two back to back threes in the first two minutes of the game, finished with 12 points as she was 4 of 7 from the 3 point line and Megan Krahenbuhl who had a big game in the post with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Defense, again, was the reason they won as they held Otero to 38% from the field and 23% from the 3 point line.

"Overall, this was a great starting weekend for the Lady Rustlers, as we begin the journey on the road for the rest of the month," stated Coach Fearing.  "This is just the beginning of a 30 minute marathon.  They handled the first two minutes, but now it's time to move on to the 3rd and 4th minute. Our defense is what kept us in the lead in these games and defense is what will win ball games with this team."
