Lady Rustlers lose by 6 to LCCC

LCCC  78 Central 72

The CWC women started much better on Wednesday night on the road in Cheyenne.   They built a 13 point mid way through the first period. But, turnovers and foul trouble would come back to haunt the Rustlers who fell for a third time in conference play 78-72.  Three Rustlers would foul out sending LCCC to the line 33 times. 19 turnovers didn't help the situation for Lindsey Fearing's team, "Turnovers and foul trouble is what got us. We are making strides in the right direction and we will get there."

After the 13 point lead early, the teams would trade the  lead 13 times and the score was tied 11 times. LCCC's biggest lead was 6 at the end of the game.

After being questionable for the game with a sprained ankle, Sophomore Paulani Tarawa scored 18 points and had 14 rebounds with 5 assists.  Fellow Sophomore Rylee Burmester scored 20 and grabbed 13 rebounds. Essy Latu added 13 and New York Freshman Tamia Cutignola tallied a Rustler career high 11 points.

  • Central is 0-3 in league play and has lost 6 straight games.
  • They are 1 and 6 against LCCC in the modern day with LCCC winning the last six.
  • This is only LCCC's third year of women's basketball after bringing the sport back after several years away from the game.
  • With Tarawa's 18 points tonight, she draws within 19 of the #2 spot on the modern day leading scorer.  Jolanna Sazue sits at #2 with 763. Tarawa now has scored 742. She needs 65 points to be the #1 scorer since bringing basketball back to CWC.
