Weekend Recap

Weekend Recap

The Rustlers fell to Region XIII Runner-Up Williston State College on the road last week, starting the season 1-6 before the Thanksgiving break. The Rustlers came out slow and were outscored in the opening quarter 27-13. In the remaining three quarters the Rustlers outpaced the Tetons 45-41 but it wasn't enough to overcome their first-quarter deficit.  In the end, the Rustlers would be outscored by 10, with the final being 58-68.

Coach Westmoreland stated the following about the 10-point loss: "Every day, every practice, every game, every rep, we talk about the same thing. Do what we do… and control your Attitude, Concentration, and Effort (ACE)… If we can do that, we can live with the results. Our habits right now are that we are doing those things for one quarter, then taking a quarter off, then trying to pick it back up. It doesn't work that way, especially with our lack of size. One break and we get scored on or out-rebounded, and then we are forced to play catch up. Teams can't run with us, so if we can keep working on getting better every day and keeping games close late, teams won't have the legs to finish with us and we will have an advantage. We won't ever get that chance if we don't focus on the little things and keep improving a possession at a time."

The Rustlers were able to take a few days off for the break before heading to Miles City to take on Miles CC and United Tribes Technical on Friday and Saturday for the Miles Thanksgiving Classic.

The lady Rustlers would end the weekend in Montana 1-1 with a loss to Miles and a victory over United Tribes Technical College.

The Rustlers struggled to score all weekend while holding solid defensive efforts early against Miles. "Our lack of scoring really exposed us again tonight. We couldn't maintain consistent offensive efforts and our defense fizzled as the game progressed. We've gotta be mentally locked in for 40," stated Coach Westmoreland.

The Rustlers locked in defensively in game two from the opening jump, never losing the lead for the full 40 minutes. "We didn't necessarily find our rhythm on offense, but we locked in defensively all game. We played together, we didn't concede, and in the end, we came away with the win."

The Rustlers bring it back home on Tuesday, November 29th to face off against Northeastern Junior College at 5:30 pm MST.
