Central Wyoming College Rustlers Face Tough Challenges in Utah Soccer Journey
The Central Wyoming College Rustlers, represented by their women's soccer team, endured a challenging series of games in Taylorville and Price, Utah. They met powerful opponents in Salt Lake Community College and Utah State Eastern, who ultimately prevailed in both encounters.
In their first game against the robust team from Salt Lake Community College, the Rustlers struggled defensively, conceding six goals in the first half. Sophie Eckery kicked off the game by scoring the first goal, which set the pace for Salt Lake Community College, leading them to a dominating 8-0 victory.
The second game saw the Rustlers head to Price, UT to face Utah State Eastern. Natasha Stenton shone by scoring the lone goal, putting the Rustlers ahead initially. However, Utah State Eastern responded strongly in the second half with goals by Katelyn Kitchen and Paisley Ashworth, securing a close 2-1 win against the Rustlers. Despite the fierce effort and defensive plays led by goalie Madilyn Shillig, the Rustlers could not maintain their lead.
Shillig totaled 17 saves over the course of both games, however, her effort at goal was overshadowed by the relentless attack of their opponents. The Rustlers will be looking to regroup and focus on their tactical and defensive strategies in their forthcoming matches, aiming to bounce back from these tough losses against Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday, September 6 in Rock Springs, WY.
