Rustler Recap

Another Rustler sports weekend is in the books!

Newly nationally ranked CWC men's cross country finished 2nd at the Bronco Stampede in Hastings, Nebraska. Competing against 4-year schools, the 13th ranked team in the NJCAA would see Jayden Yates run to a third-place finish with teammate Luke Crossley coming across 10 seconds later in fourth. Jessica White of Lander led the CWC women's team placing 21st.

Golfers competed at the Eastern Wyoming Invite over the weekend. For the third weekend in a row, the women's team won and did so in sweeping fashion for a third straight week. Aubree Johnson won her second tournament in a row with Elly LeBlanc 2nd, Lexi Cornell 3rd, and Maddie Baker 4th. Johnson shot 82 both days to win by 6 strokes. Cambree Crowther had to withdraw after six holes for illness.
Riley Bouillon went 74-77 to lead the men's team to a fourth-place finish. Riley was 18th overall. Coach Greg Stimpson said Bouillon struggled to start his second round but righted the ship and turned what could have been a bad round into a pretty good one. Golfers will compete in Sterling, Colorado, at Northeastern Junior College this upcoming Thursday and Friday.

The women's soccer team went to Western Wyoming Friday afternoon and fell 3-2 in overtime. Coach Steven Harrison felt his team played well against a very good team and said his team is "close but needs to start winning those types of matches."

CWC soccer will host Colorado Northwestern on Tuesday at the CWC fields on campus. Match times are 1:00 pm for the women and 3:00 pm for the men. The Rustlers split with the Spartans in Colorado a couple of weeks ago with the women getting a 4-0 win.

Volleyball split their four matches in Twin Falls, Idaho. The 13th ranked Rustlers would sweep host CSI and Blue Mountain. They would fall in three to #5 Snow and lost 3-1 to #8 Salt Lake. The Rustlers have one more tournament this upcoming weekend at Western Nebraska and Eastern Wyoming before conference play begins at the end of the month.
