Rustlers Pick up Two Road Wins in Montana

The Central Wyoming College men's basketball team picked up two road wins this weekend in their trip north to Crow Agency and Miles City. Friday's matchup saw them defeat Little Big Horn handily by a score of 106-64, followed by an overtime win in a hostile environment Saturday at Miles where they escaped with a 76-72 victory.

"This was a big weekend for our team," said Jack Nelson, head coach. "We needed to go on the road and prove to ourselves that we could play well and come away with wins. Miles CC is a tough opponent and I am really proud of how our guys responded. It was a tough atmosphere. The score was tight throughout and we just kept believing. We talk all the time about playing the same way no matter what the score is, no matter what the crowd is like, no matter who the opponent is and we did that this weekend."

After a slow start at Little Big Horn, the Rustlers picked up the pace for a win that saw all 11 Rustlers score points. The front line managed to score 63 total points, led by Colter Galante and Alihan Demir each having 21 point efforts, while Irshaad Hunte and Lake Del Mar scored 17 and 4 points, respectively.  The Rustlers had 21 total assists on the night, and shot 58 percent from the field to Little Big Horn's 41.2 percent.

The next evening in Miles City would end up being quite the test. However, after ending regulation with a key defensive stop, the Rustlers would prevail in overtime. Chris Quayle nailed a key perimeter jumper via a Devon Colley assist with under a minute remaining to help gain a 76-70 advantage. Quayle would end the evening with 10 points, five assists, six rebounds and two steals. Colley ended with nine points and six assists, while the Demir and Hunte would end the game with 20 and 18 points, combining for 15 rebounds. The Rustlers pulled down 20 offensive rebounds on the evening and forced 22 turnovers.

The Rustlers are now 15-7 on the season and 6-2 in sub-region play. They have won 12 of their last 14 games. The team will return to action in a big week of home games beginning this Wednesday night versus Western Wyoming. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm. The team will then be back in Rustler Gymnasium Saturday for a 5pm game versus Gillette College.
