The CWC Men's Basketball team is coming off of an 18-win season that saw them finish fourth in Region 9 North. "We accomplished some things last season that we have not done in my time here. Winning at Sterling, Laramie, and Rock Springs along with sweeping Western Wyoming would be the main highlights. This season we have big goals of competing for the Region 9 North title, beating multiple Region 18 opponents, and making the Region 9 tournament," explained Coach Schmit. 

 

Competing for the Region 9 North title will be a tall task this season as Gillette comes back into the league, Casper fields a new coaching staff, and prominent powers LCCC and Western Wyoming return some of the best players in the region. Games scheduled against Region 18 will challenge the Rustlers in ways Region 9 may not. "Facing off against Salt Lake, Snow, and USUE, gives us a chance to compete against teams at our level, but not on our level. And this is only in Region 18. We also have a non-region game set up against Dawson, which has been a top-25 program over the last handful of seasons. Testing ourselves before Region 9 is what our schedule is set up to do," Coach Schmit commented on their 18-game pre-season schedule. 

 

CWC's season will tip off with two scrimmage dates in October. On October 14th, the Rustlers will travel to Salt Lake followed by the Jucoadvocate Jamboree in Denver, CO on October 20th-21st. The first regular season game will be held in Rustler Gymnasium on Wednesday, November 1st against national powerhouse Salt Lake. Fans will be able to see the Rustlers early and often on their home court. Along with the season opener, CWC will take their home court five times before Christmas. Coach Schmit shared his thoughts on playing at home, "Our facility is a great spot to watch a college basketball game. I feel fans have always enjoyed watching our teams. This year's squad is one of the best offensive groups I've had. It should be an enjoyable year for our fans to come out and support our program. Make sure to come check us out!"
