Rustlers Return Home for Matchup After Long Week of Travel

The Rustler men's basketball team were trudging through the thick of their non-conference schedule this past week, traveling to both Montana and Idaho this past week for competitions. Following their combined home classic on Friday and Saturday November 8 & 9, both Central Wyoming basketball teams hopped on a bus Sunday afternoon to Glendive, Montana. There they faced Dawson Community College the following day, with the women playing first and men second.

CWC struggled to get anything going offensively in the first half, and their offensive woes carried over into the second half. Mohamed Mahadhi was the only Rustler to score in double digits, and they couldn't get going from behind the arc, cashing in on only five three pointers on 20 attempts. Dawson handed the Rustlers their fourth loss of the season in Monday's matchup, out-scoring CWC 88-54.

After a couple days of practices and workouts to recover and rally, the Rustlers were back on the road again Thursday, this time charted for Twin Falls, Idaho for a classic hosted by 16th nationally-ranked College of Southern Idaho. Central Wyoming was matched up against the tournament host Friday afternoon, who had previously taken down the third nationally-ranked team in the country Dayton State College two weeks prior. The Rustlers three point percentage was double that of CSI's, and got a small glimpse of an offensive breakout from Mahadhi. He paved the way in the first half and led all scorers with 13 points, and finished with a game-high 19. Julian Ormond joined Mahadhi in the double digits, chipping in 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting. But the Golden Eagle's 6-7 Amarco Doyle and company were too much for CWC's defense and took off to a 14 point halftime lead, which eventually grew to 20 by the end of the game.

The Central Wyoming men's basketball team finished their week off against Colorado Northwestern Community College on day two of the CSI Invitational. Camrin Gulley had 10 of CWC's 23 first half points, and the Rustler's best rebounding and stellar shooting efforts of the week were able to keep them within three points once the end of the first half buzzer sounded. The Rustlers couldn't find the rim coming out of the break and their cold-streak killed any momentum the Rustlers were hoping to carry over. After a 40% field goal performance in the first half, that number was cut in half to 21.7%. It didn't help that CNCC couldn't miss from behind the arc either, and their six second half three pointers allowed them to pull out of reach and secure the win, 61-38.

The Rustlers will play their last home game before christmas break this Wednesday, November 20 at 5:30pm against Northeastern Junior College.
