Rustlers split on the road; home this weekend
The long road trip to Otero Junior College took its toll on the Rustler soccer teams. A 9am start had the women's team starting slow and allowing OJC to get two quick goals.  The Rustler women settled in and then played solid for the remainder of the half. Again, at the start of the second half OJC was able to score two quick goals forcing the CWC women to dig themselves out of a huge hole. At the 23:18 mark Barbara Ruiz put a penalty kick into the net for the lone Rustler score. When asked about the game Sophomore captain Clancie Probst stated, "We just did not play well today.  We never seemed to get going".  Final score 1-5

The men's game was a very hard fought physical game. In the first 20 minutes the OJC men and the CWC men traded shots and goals. Tanner Johnson took a chip pass from Pedro da Costa and put it into the goal. Unfortunately, that was all of the offense the CWC men could muster for the day. The OJC men went on to score an additional four goals. When asked about the game Sophomore captain Drake Simmons stated, "to put it plainly we just didn't play well today but we will be ready for Trinidad."  Final score 1-5

With an 11am start for the men against Trinidad State on Saturday the CWC men came out with energy and drive. The first 15 minutes saw Pedro da Costa put one in the bottom right corner off of an assist from Dorian Penner. Three minutes late the TSC men were able to sneak one by the Rustler defense and tied the match. The battle ensued until Tanner Johnson put one in the middle of the goal from another critical pass from Dorian Penner. The second half saw a hard-fought match with neither team able to find the net. When asked about the game and his playing time, Mac Worthington said, "It's always great getting minutes on the pitch. I felt really good today and felt that I helped the team. We fought through the 90 minutes and had a solid win." The Final score was 2-1 Rustlers. Coach Haskell continued with Worthington's thought by saying, "Trinidad put up a great battle but we stayed with our game plan and came out with a win."

In the 2nd game of the day the Rustler women took on TSC as well. TSC was able to score first and then Joey Kay took a fantastic pass from Felicity Johnstun and sent it into the back of the net for a tying goal. Now playing with confidence and as a total team the Rustler women pushed their offense into high gear. Emma Mansell scored on three different shots during the second half. The first with an assist from Brynnley Wardle. Emma then had two more unassisted goals. Emma was excited to talk about her 2nd half hat-trick after the game. "I can't believe I was able to get three in during the 2nd half. This was a total team effort. We came out and played like I know we can. The pass from Brynnley was perfect and it then became contagious and everyone steeped up their game. It was a great win. As he walked off
the field Coach DeCook was saying, "this is the way we know our kids can play. After yesterdays lackluster matches to come back and bring the attack to the opponent sit is a great finish to the weekend. We didn't play our best OJC but today totally sets us up for the rest of the season. Both the men and the women played with confidence and energy today. This is how our teams can play."  The final score was 4-1.

The Rustlers will play at home this Friday, October 7 against Gillette College and on Saturday, October 8 against Casper College.
