Bio
Caitlan Thorne enters her second year as the CWC Ranch Horse team assistant coach.
Thorne was raised in Galena, Illinois. She went on to play collegiate soccer at Ottawa University for four years. After Ottawa, Thorne went to Tarleton State University and competed on the Ranch Horse team there. After college, she went on to coach the CWC Ranch Horse Team and was a part of the team when it was just a club. During her career as a coach, Thorne assisted the team in qualifying at various collegiate shows nationwide. She was also a Horse Trainers Assistant from 2020-2022.
Thorne enjoys preparing students for collegiate-level competition, traveling them to new facilities, explaining various nuances such as the judges standpoint, volunteering during shows, understanding and reading their score sheets, what to keep an eye on as other athletes are competing. She believes in having students aid and experience the process of setting up fundraisers, clinics, banquets, and even social media posts, which will hopefully help them in the future career endeavors.
“I encourage students to achieve their goals via athletics, academics and future careers. My desire is to enhance these student’s overall ability, integrity and happiness. I challenge these students to overcome their biggest fear and promote them to achieve what they desire. I look forward to seeing how much they each accomplish in life.”
Thorne assists students in internships, job opportunities, trainings and lessons, improving skills, earning scholarships, and applying at four year institutions after CWC.
Thorne has a Bachelor's Degree in Pre-Allied Health: Kinesiology 2020 at Ottawa University and a Masters Degree in Animal Science: Equine Nutrition 2022 at Tarleton State University. She also holds an Equine Management Certification, Equinology Certification and a Research Associate: CBD Project, Nutrition Project, and Physiology Project.
When she's not coaching the Ranch Horse athletes, Thorne enjoys breakaway roping and attending Church and Women’s Bible Study.
