Rustlers Compete at First Spring Rodeo

Rustlers Compete at First Spring Rodeo

The Rustlers traveled to Gillette this past weekend for their first competition of the spring season, which was a doubleheader. Due to Covid restrictions and financial constraints, Sheridan College rescheduled their rodeo from the fall to the spring so they could join efforts in producing a rodeo with Gillette College to help with costs for them and the rest of the region. The format looked a little different than the usual long and short round, due to the number of contestants and time, both rodeos were only one round of competition.

Sheridan's rodeo was first, and the Rustlers had three in the top ten after it was all said and done. Cole Trainor tipped his steer over in 8.1 seconds to finish 8th in the Steer Wrestling. Sadie Sturman stopped the clock in 3.6 seconds to place 7th in the Breakaway Roping, and Bekah Hartley placed 5th in the Barrel Racing after stopping the clock in 14.83 seconds. Kaden Berger was the only Rustler to place in the top ten in the Gillette Rodeo. He made a nice run stopping the clock in 10.3 seconds in the Tie-Down Roping.

"We are grateful to have the opportunity to compete this spring season," said Coach Schrock. "This past year has been difficult for everyone, so being able to get back to somewhat normal is awesome. We have had to jump through quite a few hoops to get to this point, changing schedules and procedures. These kids have kept a great attitude about everything and it is nice to see the spring season get underway for them. As a whole I think they did well, we had some horse issues but as long as we are able to keep practicing I am confident that they will get straightened out. We get three days of practice before we leave for EWC's rodeo."

Up Next: Rustler Rodeo will head to Torrington, WY to compete at EWC this weekend (March 26-28).
