Rustler Rodeo Rounds-Up Fall Season

Rustler Rodeo Rounds-Up Fall Season

The Rustlers traveled to Lamar, Colorado to compete at the last Fall Rodeo this past weekend.  After two full days of competition, they had four qualify for the short round.  Three of the four placed within the top six- giving themselves, and the team, points towards qualifying for the CNFR.

Leading the way was Freshman Wyatt Stephens from Tremonton, Utah.  He tossed his long round steer in 4.8 seconds, placing second in the long round, but unfortunately, he wasn't able to get his hands on his short round steer resulting in a no-time and dropping him to eighth in the average.  Sophomore, Kaden Berger, from Saratoga, Wyoming, and Kall Mayfield from Midwest, Wyoming both qualified for the short round in the Tie-Down Roping.  Kaden split fourth and fifth in the long round with a 10.9-second run but dropped to eighth in the average after finishing with a time of 16.1 in the short round.  Kall placed ninth in the long round with a 12.1 second, run but received a 10-second penalty in the short round after breaking the barrier, giving him a total time of 23.2 in the short round, and 35.3 on two heads placing him ninth overall in the average.

Shelby Weltz from British Columbia, Canada was the only one on the women's team to qualify for the short round.  She claimed the fourth-fastest time in the long round of the Goat Tying with a 7.3-second run but dropped to ninth in the average after a 9.5 second run in the short round.

"It was a successful Fall season," said Coach Schrock.  "Even though we should have won more we had a lot of positive things that we can build on over the winter month.  Most everyone on our team works multiple events and the majority of them place in more than one event this Fall.  When they all start hitting on every cylinder it is going to be fun to watch.  They all worked very hard this Fall and should be proud of themselves.  We will take a couple of weeks off from practice so that they can get caught up in some classes and then we will start back to practice for the winter months, so that we can be prepared for the Spring season that will start-up in the middle of March in Gillette, Wyoming."
