The Rustlers traveled to Fort Collins, CO this past weekend for the Skyline Stampede Rodeo hosted by the CSU Rodeo Team.  On Championship Sunday the Rustlers had three representing them and one came out on top.

Leading the way for the men's team was Dustin Thompson.  Thompson qualified for the short round in Steer Wrestling by throwing his long round steer in 7.3 seconds, placing him sixth.  He followed that up with the fastest run of the entire weekend with a time of 4.3 seconds, moving him up to first place in the average.  Teammate Jett VanBeizen made his third appearance in a row in the short round of the Steer Wrestling after splitting second and third in the long round with a 5.4-second run.  He failed to receive a time in the short round that dropped him to eighth place in the average.

Shelby Weltz was the only one on the women's team to qualify for the short round, making her appearance for the second week in a row in the Goat Tying.  After placing fifth in the long round with a time of 7.3, she came back with another 7.3 second run in the short round, placing her in a tie for fifth and sixth in the round and dropping her one hole in the average to sixth overall.

"I am pleased with the overall performance of the team this past weekend and very happy for Dustin Thompson," said Coach Schrock. "He has had a tough spring but has been bulldogging great in practice. I told him last week that I appreciated his great attitude and that because of it when the opportunity presented itself for him to win that he would be ready to seize it, and he was. Right now, Jett is on a roll and has been doing a great job containing his composure, he had a great long round run and came back in the short round with a steer that set up right outside of the chute that made it dang near impossible for him to get his hands on him. He, too, has a great attitude and we look for him to continue making solid runs at the last two spring rodeos. Last, but certainly not least, is Shelby Weltz, she also had a great weekend making two very consistent runs in the goat tying, not to mention catching her calf in the breakaway and her steer in the team roping, which happened to be the first time ever for her and teammate, Lexi Johnson, to enter the Team Roping in a rodeo. I could go on and on about this entire team and how proud I am of them, their work ethic day in and day out is unbelievable, and I have no doubt that they will be ready to hit the practice pen this evening with great attitudes in order to get prepped for this upcoming weekend, where we will be traveling to Casper for the Ropin' and Riggin' Days, April 8-10."
