Chadron State Rodeo Results

The Rustlers kicked off the 2022/23 season this past weekend in Chadron, Nebraska. The Men's Team had nine different positions back in the short round on Sunday, most impressive is that five of the top ten in the Steer Wrestling were wearing a CWC vest.

Leading the way for the Men's team was a third-year transfer, Clay Reiner, of Buffalo, WY. He made it back in all three of his events, but gathered all of his points in the Tie Down roping, finishing second in the long round with a 9.8-second run, and sixth in the average. In the Team Roping, he and his partner Lan Fuhrer, made it back eighth but dropped to ninth after receiving a no-time in the short round. And in Steer Wrestling he qualified tenth, and again had tough luck with another no-time. The Rustlers clogged up the middle of Steer Wrestling standings placing fifth, sixth, seventh, and ninth. In fifth was Riley Barber, a freshman from Shelley, Idaho, placing second in the short round with a 4.5-second run, and 11.0 on two head. Teammate Sam Damele, a freshman from Mountain Home, Idaho, followed placing sixth with a time of 14.5 on two. Sophomore Wyatt Stephens, of Tremonton, UT, placed seventh in the average but gathered some points for the men's team placing fourth in the long round with a time of 5.4 seconds. Sophomore Kall Mayfield from Midwest, Wyoming, came back in ninth place, but could not get his hands on his steer and received a no-time in the short round. Dan Weyrich, a junior from Worland, WY, made it back to the short round in the Saddle Bronc Riding in ninth position but failed to ride his short round horse resulting in a no-score.

"It feels good to get back at it again," said Coach Schrock speaking about the start of the 2022/23 season. "We have had a great preseason of practice despite having two of our kids home due to injuries causing surgery. The rest of the team has been working really hard in all aspects from 6am workouts, to the classroom, and then to practice for the past month. Obviously, it is pretty neat to see Clay Reiner make it back to the short round in all three of his events and that CWC had five out of the top ten Steer Wrestlers back! That is awesome stuff. But also there were very few mistakes that were made by the team, the fact is the cattle were tough and so the draw was a huge factor in the outcome. As a team, we only let a couple of opportunities slip by, we will leave those behind and get ready for our hometown rodeo this weekend. I am looking forward to hosting the rodeo with this team, they are a talented bunch that works very hard and I can't wait for our community to watch them perform. Follow the CWC Rodeo Instagram and Facebook page for updates on the rodeo and team."

CWC will host the Roundup Rodeo this Friday-Sunday (September 23-25) at the Fremont County Fairgrounds.
