Rustler Roundup Rodeo Results

The Rustlers hosted their hometown rodeo this past weekend and were well represented in the short round on both the Women's and Men's teams placing fourth and second respectively.

For the second week in a row Clay Reiner led the way for the Men's team, by winning the long round in both the Steer Wrestling and Team Roping. His long round run in the Steer Wrestling was the fastest time of the weekend with a 3.8 second, following it up with a 4.0 which was the fastest time of the short round, placing him first in the round and first in the average. In the Team Roping, Clay and his partner, Lan Fuhrer from Casper College, won the long round with a 7.5-second run but dropped to sixth in the average after their 14.2-second run in the short round. Teammate, Wyatt Stephens, was next in line at the pay window finishing second in the average after throwing his long round steer in 4.5 seconds and his short round steer in 5.0, placing him splitting 3/4 in the long round and fourth in the short round. Kall Mayfield placed second in the long round of the Steer Wrestling with a 4.4-second run but failed to stop the clock in the short round dropping him to eighth in the average. Jett VanBeizen also made an appearance in the short round in both the Steer Wrestling and Team Roping, placing ninth overall in the Steer Wrestling and seventh in the Team Roping with teammate, Dustin Thompson. The duo qualified for the short round by splitting second through fourth in the long round with a time of 7.6 but dropped to seventh in the average after receiving a no-time in the short round.

The Lady Rustlers had two freshmen representing the team on Championship Sunday. Kendell Williams made it back in both of her events, the Breakaway Roping and Goat Tying. She qualified for the short round in a four-way tie, eighth through eleventh place with a time of 8.4 in the Goat Tying, but moved up and held her position of eighth by herself in the average after tying a 9.7 in the short round. In the Breakaway Roping, she qualified with a time of 2.7 seconds with four other girls in a logjam at the bottom of the pack. She managed to move up to sixth in the average all by herself after roping her short round calf in another 2.7, placing her in a tie for fourth and fifth in the round. Teammate, Kennedy Sheehan, blitzed her long round run in the Goat Tying with a 7.6-second run which was fast enough to tie for the win the round but dropped to ninth in the average after her 10.7 seconds short round run.

"It is always a lot of work to put on our hometown rodeo", said Coach Schrock. "But with the team and coaching staff that we have here right now, it went off without a hitch. It takes everyone one of us to make it happen and I think it is great for the community and region to see how hard this team works to produce their hometown rodeo. Then, to add the icing on the cake, we had four out of the top ten Steer Wrestlers back to the short round, placing first and second in the average. Clay wins the rodeo and the prestigious honors of being named the 2022 Rustler Roundup Rodeo Men's All-Around Champion.  Two of our freshmen gals made their first short rounds of their college careers while performing in front of their hometown crowd. I can go on and on about how proud I am of this team, but to keep it simple they are a great bunch, that are very talented, and have great work ethics. It is nice to put this week behind us, we will celebrate the wins, and talk about improvements we need to make for our rodeo next year. We have a few things we need to work on this week in practice so that we will be ready to compete in Sheridan this upcoming weekend."
