Sheridan Rodeo Recap

The Rustlers traveled to Sheridan, Wyoming to compete at the Pat Hamilton Memorial Rodeo hosted by the Sheridan College Rodeo Team. On Championship Sunday they had nine different spots representing Central Wyoming College in the short round.

Dustin Thompson led the way making it back in the Steer Wrestling and Team Roping, as did his roping partner, Jett Vanbiezen. Dustin placed third in the long round of the Steer Wrestling with a time of 5.2 and remained third in the average after his 8.0 second run in the short round. He and Jett roped their long round steer in 7.4 seconds to place them sixth in the round, but failed to stop the clock in the short round dropping them to seventh in the average. Jett qualified in the fifth position in the Steer Wrestling with a 5.7-sec run, and moved up to fourth in the average after he threw his short round steer in 9.8 seconds. Teammates, Sam Damele and Kall Mayfield, also made it back to eighth and tenth place and were both able to move up in the average to seventh and eighth, respectively. Clay Reiner and Team Roping partner Lan Fuhrer, from Casper College, qualified in seventh position with a time of 7.5 but received a no-time in the short round dropping them to eighth in the average. In the Saddle Bronc Riding, Riley Barber, scored a 59 in the long round, qualifying him back in ninth place, but he received a no score in the short round keeping him at ninth in the average.

Kevi Broncho was the only team member on the Women's team to make it back to the short round. She qualified in the tenth position after roping her Breakaway calf in 3.9 seconds. She was able to jump all the way to second in the average after her 15-second run in the short round, also placing her second in the round.

"This team is focused and working hard in the classroom and practice pen," said Coach Schrock. "They expect to win and are mentally focused when they are competing, helping them see the score and read cattle well. We had four out of the top ten Steer Wrestlers back to the short round this weekend. It was good to see Dustin Thompson hold his spot in the average, he's been bull-dogging well but hasn't been able to win much. He was the very first one out on Friday and his time held up to win third in the round. Kall Mayfield made it back tenth, he barely broke the barrier to throw the fastest steer of the weekend but instead got a ten-second penalty making him 14.8, I am proud of him for taking a sharp start to give himself a chance to win. Then Kevi Broncho did the same thing, made it back tenth, and barely broke the barrier too, but she ran her calf down and roped it. Only she and one other girl roped two calves so she jumped from tenth to second by sticking to the game plan. We will make sure our horses are scoring sharp and keep them exercised but try to not work them too hard this week because we have a long 11-hour trip to Lamar, Colorado this weekend."
