LCC Rodeo Recap

The Rustlers traveled twelve hours south to Lamar, Colorado for the fourth of five fall rodeos. After the long round was finished there were five Rustlers that qualified for the short round, two of the five came out on top as event champions.

Clay Reiner led the way for the Men's team scoring 160 points on his way to winning his second Steer Wrestling title for the fall. He won the long round with a 4.1-second run and followed it up with a 5.3 in the short round; placing him third in the round and first in the average. Wyatt Stephens gathered up 150 team points on his way to winning the Tie-Down Roping average. In the long round, he had the fourth fastest run with a time of 9.6, following it up with a 9.0-second run that was fast enough to win the round and average. Dustin Thompson qualified for the short round in the Steer Wrestling in tenth place with a time of 6.3, and with the second fastest time of the short round, a 4.6, he moved up splitting third and fourth in the average. Riley Barber qualified for the short round in the Saddle Bronc Riding in the seventh position with a 63-point ride but failed to ride his short round horse resulting in a no-score.

Kevi Brocho and team roping partner, Ellie Bard, from Gillette College, qualified tenth with a time of 9.1 but failed to stop the clock in the short round.

"This is by far the best short round the team has had this fall," said Coach Schrock. "Clay won the Steer Wrestling, Wyatt won the Tie-Down, Dustin jumped from tenth to splitting third and fourth, Kevi didn't get a chance to throw her rope, and Riley rode a really strong and rank stud horse for five or six seconds. The entire team did a great job down there and especially the ones that made it back to the short round, all of them were mentally strong and executed their game plan.  We will give our horses a break tonight because of the long haul then we will get after it Tuesday through Thursday before we leave for the final fall rodeo at LCCC on Friday morning."
