Shawn Dubie Memorial Rodeo Recap

The CWC Rodeo Team traveled to Cheyenne, Wyoming to compete at the Shawn Dubie Memorial Rodeo, hosted by the LCCC Rodeo Team this past weekend. The Rustlers had another strong performance from the Steer Wrestlers and claimed the top spot for the third time out of five rodeos this fall.

Dustin Thompson was the number one Steer Wrestler for the weekend, winning the average by a second and a half. His 3.5-second run won the long round and was the fastest run of the weekend. He followed it up with a 5.2-second run in the short round, making him 8.7 on two. Teammate, Jett VanBeizen, followed close behind with 10.4 second average on two, placing him third in the average after a sixth place finish in the long round with a 5.3-second run and a 5.1 in the short round which was fast enough to split second and third in the round.

"I am very proud of this team and the way that they all performed this fall", said Coach Schrock. "They have been working their butts off for the past two months. They start with workouts at 6:00am, go to class all day, practice from 4:00-8:00, eat, do homework, and repeat. There has been very little tardiness, and not one person skipped out on anything, which says a lot about their character. We had a very productive season in the practice pen and at the rodeos, showing great mental toughness throughout. No doubt we have had most of our success in the Steer Wrestling. After the fall season, Dustin is number one in the region, Clay is number two, Jett is seventh, and Wyatt is ninth. Of course, I am proud of these guys for working hard and it's fun to watch their hard work pay off for them. I'm also very proud of the others that maybe didn't have the fall they wanted but kept showing up every day with a smile and a good attitude. We will take a couple of weeks off from practice so they can get caught up in classes. Practice will resume the first of November until the end of the semester, then start back up in January to prepare for the spring season that starts in the middle of March and runs through the end of April. Thanks to all of our sponsors and supporters."
