Women's Basketball Fights Through Six Games in Eight Day Stretch

The women's basketball team had an equally crazy week of travel and competition this past week following their home classic on November 8 & 9. Montana was first on the itinerary for the Rustlers, making the trip up to Glendive with the men's team to face Dawson Community College. Central Wyoming continued their winning streak on Monday when they put away Dawson, 70-58. Almost every starter for CWC made it to the double digits in the points column by the end of the game, and Laura Ring notched her second double double of the year by adding 13 rebounds to her game-high 18 points. But it wasn't just the offense that shined for CWC; they were a brick wall on defense as well, collectively holding Dawson to 30.1% from the field and a meager 3.8% from three point range.

The team returned home for a quick turnaround on Wednesday to host the 25th ranked NJCAA team in the country, Snow College. Despite falling behind by 22 in the first half, a career-best output from Natalia Ballin lit the fire underneath CWC. Although Ballin's game-high 24 points helped the Rustlers out-score Snow College 51-47, it wasn't enough to close the gap and Central Wyoming fell to Snow, 93-77.

Before you could say "Go Rustlers", CWC was on the road again. Headed to Price, Utah for their fifth and sixth game in eight days, an all too familiar opponent was ready for a rematch on Friday. After hosting Snow College in the Rustler Gym Wednesday night, the Rustlers were slated to take on the top-25 Badgers again at the USU-Eastern classic, less than 48 hours later.

Snow College had Central Wyoming's number in this match. The Badger's suffocating defense held CWC to 14.6% shooting from the field and didn't allow a single point in the first quarter. Snow kept their foot on the pedal until the final horn, and proved why they were a nationally ranked team with a dominant 71-26 win.

The trio of Esperanza Vergara, Ballin and Sophie Wilkinson made their presence known in Saturday's game against the host team, Utah State University Eastern. A near double double from Wilkinson (15 points, 9 rebounds) and 13 point third quarter takeover from Vergara gave the Golden Eagles all they could handle. USU Eastern's first quarter 22-8 lead proved to be too large of a deficit for the Rustlers to overcome, and Central Wyoming dropped their third straight game in the 77-66 loss.
