Rustler Women Fall Short on the Road in Region 9 Matchup

Head women's basketball coach Keith Wyatt and his squad were approaching the home stretch of conference games last week, and the Rustlers were all hands on deck to secure a play-in spot in the Region 9 tournament. They were on their way to Powell, Wyoming Thursday morning to face Northwest College, a team who was sitting at fourth place in the Region 9-North standings, and the Rustlers had previously bested them in their previous match in January, 76-69.

From the tipoff of Thursday evening's match, NWC made it clear they were going to be the ones applying the pressure. Turnovers were the bane of CWC's offense, and the Trappers forced six of them in the first quarter, and another 10 in the second. The Rustlers ended the game with 28 total, and NWC scored 40 of their 89 points off of CWC turnovers.

The silver lining of the game was Sophie Wilkson's domination on the offensive glass. She pulled down eight offensive rebounds and secured her fourth double double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Rustlers fell to 2-7 in conference with their 89-50 loss, but are still alive for a chance at a Region 9 tournament play-in game. The CWC women's basketball team will need to win at least 2 of their last three games in order to qualify.
