Rustlers lose by a goal to WWCC

On Friday, September 22 the Central Wyoming College women's soccer team traveled to Rock Springs, WY to take on the WWCC women in a Region 9 soccer match-up. The weather was nasty with rain, wind, and 42 degrees at game time creating a wind chill of 33.

Playing on the artificial turf, the play was speedy with the ball skipping across the surface. The WWCC women struck first at the 36-minute mark. The CWC women settled into a nice pace of play after the score and pressed hard but found themselves down 0-1 at the half. Halftime saw Coach DeCook make some minor tactical adjustments allowing the Rustler women to come out strong. They were able to get the game-tying score 10 minutes into the half. Felicity Johnstun took a great pass from center-back Clancie Probst. Felicity powered a shot from the six-yard line that caught the WWCC goalkeeper by surprise. The Goalkeeper was not able to pull the ball in and Star Valley freshman Aubrey Moyer was able to pound the ball into the back of the net. Both teams fought hard for the next 30 minutes. With only five minutes left of the clock, WWCC was able to get a ball to skip on the highly wet surface and find the net.  The final score was 1-2.

When asked about her goal Aubrey was excited saying with a huge smile, "That goal was what we needed. I am glad I was able to be in the right spot. We just needed to get one more and put them away." Coach DeCook chatted about the game saying, "WWCC is certainly one of the best teams we have played so far. They played very physical along with some solid tactical passes. All of our women just do not give up. Aubrey's goal was tremendous and her run was critical. Victoria Fletcher's day in the net as a Goalkeeper was fantastic. She definitely had a career day there. Every day each one of these ladies continues to show Coach Haskell and me what they are made of. At half-time, they sat on the bench shivering from the cold and rain but they only wanted to go back in and win the match. These ladies are tremendous and a privilege to coach. We are now looking forward to playing Otero and Trinidad next week."

The Rustlers will head to Otero Junior College this Friday, September 29th and to Trinidad State College on Saturday, September 30th.
