Rustlers Finish Strong

During the final week of regular season play, the Central Wyoming College volleyball team played a road game against Northwest College on Tuesday, October 24th, and hosted Gillette College on Saturday, October 28th. In the game at Northwest College, the Rustlers played one of their most well-rounded matches of the season, according to head coach Kim Davis.  CWC swept the Trappers in three straight sets winning 25-21, 25-20 and 25-11.

Saturday's game against Gillette College honored four Rustler sophomores, Megan Hardman, Brinley Hardy, Courtney Green and Emalie DePew.  As in their previous meeting, Central Wyoming controlled the first two sets, winning 25-18 and 25-13.  The scrappy Pronghorn team battled to a third set win, 25-18, before CWC regained the momentum, winning the fourth set and match, 25-20. Emalie DePew was appreciative of the effort her team gave in her last home match as a Rustler.  "Saturday's game was a great last home game for us sophomores.  I am once again extremely proud of how we played.  Our team never stopped fighting back." said DePew, a middle-blocker. Fellow sophomore teammate, Courtney Green, agreed.  "It was a good game.  Gillette came back in the third but that didn't stop us. I'm sad that was my last game playing in the Rustler Gym."   Brinley Hardy, a sophomore who contributes at multiple positions, said she was grateful for the college and community.  "It was a fun night with good support from our community and students and it was a great way to end our last home game for the year with a win.  I thought we played well as a team.  And I'm excited for next week!"  Sophomore setter, Megan Hardman, echoed the opinions of her teammates.  "This weekend's game against Gilletter was a fun game.  We did have that third set where Gillette came back but we kept fighting and am proud of the win but sad for the last game us sophomores got to play here at CWC.  I am excited for regionals." The Rustler volleyball team finished the regular season with a 9-19 overall record but were 7-5 in the north conference of Region IX.  Their conference success earned them a berth at the Region IX tournament in Sterling, Colorado from November 1-4.
Central Wyoming College opens play against the home team, Northeastern Junior College, at 7pm on Wednesday, November 1st.  The top two teams are guaranteed a berth at the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
