Men's and Women's Rustler Soccer Struggle in Final Preseason Matches

CWC men's and women's soccer teams travelled to Gillette, Wyoming to face Gillette College this past Saturday for their last preseason matches of the year before Region IX play begins. The Rustler women came out the gate with their hair on fire, lighting up the scoreboard within the first eight minutes. Freshman Willow Aullman slammed one into the net from 25 yards out on the right side of the field. It was a purely offensive showdown from both teams that point forward. Mia Boll was next to score for CWC, thanks to a beautiful pass from Kristen Moss. Rakiya King came in and added two goals of her own, one from an assist by center back Sienna Bodily, the other on an unassisted power shot from the 18 yard line. The Rustler women took a commanding 4-3 lead into halftime.
Kristen Moss continued to step up her offensive contribution in the second half by bending a stellar corner kick into the goal. Moss wasn't done yet, as she quickly took advantage of a great pass from Mia Boll and put another ball past the keeper at the 71 minute mark. Unfortunately, the Rustler women were overwhelmed by a plethora of second half goals from Gillette and could not hang onto the lead, with the game ending in a final score of 6-11.
The CWC men had their own troubles with the Pronghorns of Gillette College. A hat trick from star Gillette midfielder was enough to keep the game out of reach, but the Rustlers refused to be shut out. Their lone goal of the day came off the foot of Brazilian defender Eduardo Bicca. Bicca's goal was assisted by a dynamic set piece from Emre Aydogmus. The match ended with a score of 1-4 in favor of Gillette College. On a positive note, the Rustler men were able to cycle through a lot of their roster and build experience by getting 22 different players on the field throughout their match.
Both teams head to Lamar, Colorado this Friday, September 9th to take on Lamar Community College. They'll then travel to Sterling, Colorado for a match on Saturday the 10th against Northeastern Junior College.
