Women's Soccer Drops a Pair of Road Conference Games
Friday afternoon the CWC Rustler Men's and Women's Soccer teams travelled to Gillette, WY to take on Gillette College in a pair of Region 9 conference matchups.
The women's teams kicked off at 1pm in what turned out to be an evenly matched game for both teams. When one team scored, the other would answer back with a goal of their own. Jersee Clapier struck first for the Lady Rustlers, receiving a pass from Kristen Moss outside of the penalty box and driving a heater into the net from the left side. The second goal for CWC came off of an assist from Ana Bernardo. Bernardo crossed the ball to Rakiya King, and after a bit of a scramble, King sorted through the mess and pushed the ball into the goal. The final goal of the afternoon was a Kristen Moss miracle. Clapier returned the favor to Moss, setting up her teammate with a great pass inside the box, which Moss slammed past the Gillette Goalkeeper. The 3-1 advantage CWC carried into halftime faded very quickly, with Gillette College taking their turn putting the ball in the net. Gillette was able to get a late goal in the 88th minute to steal the win out from the Lady Rustlers, 3-4.
Saturday afternoon's match was at Casper College against the Thunderbirds. The Lady Rustlers started the match strong and controlled the pace of play for the first 30 minutes. Casper broke the clamps the CWC women had them in with a quick breakaway goal. The flood gates opened soon after that first score, with Casper maintaining a firm grip on the entire rhythm of play, piling on three more unanswered goals. The match ended in a score of 0-4, in favor of Casper College.
The Ruslters will be taking a trip to Northwest College this Saturday, Oct. 5th for another conference match.
