Rustlers lose first two conference matches

Rustlers lose first two conference matches

This past Friday and Saturday, the Rustler volleyball team traveled to Rock Springs and Casper for the start of Region IX conference play.

Their first conference matchup was against the Mustangs of Western Wyoming Community College.  The game against the Mustangs was a battle, going all five sets.  Central Wyoming dropped a tight first set before gaining momentum, winning the next two sets (24-26, 25-22, 25-23).  The Mustangs fought back in the third, forcing a deciding fifth set (23-25).  The fifth set was a struggle for the Rustlers as they had a negative hitting percentage (-.188), dropping the set and match, 9-15.

On Saturday, Central Wyoming College met up with the Casper College Thunderbirds in Casper, WY. The first two sets were Casper victories (18-25, 17-25) before the Rustlers showed some resilience in the third marathon set, eventually losing, 28-30. Sophomore middle, Emalie Depew, said this about her team, "Even though we didn't get the outcome we wanted, I am very proud of how we played against Western Wyoming.  After every game, we find new things we need to work on so I can't wait to get back in the gym this week!"

With the weekend losses, Central Wyoming's record drops to 2-16 overall and 0-2 in Region IX conference play.  The Rustlers will finally host home matches this upcoming Friday, September 29th taking on Eastern Wyoming and again on Saturday, September 30th playing Laramie County CC.
