Christy Chatfield is new to coaching the Rustler Cross Country team, but she is no stranger to CWC, Fremont County, or running for that matter. She has been working in the Administrative Services department on campus for almost a year, and is approaching 18 years of residency in Fremont county. Chatfield was also a cross country runner herself, and is excited to continue her passion for what she believes is truly one of the most mentally and physically challenging sports there is. 

For this upcoming season, the Rustlers welcome back two returners from last year and add one new runner to the team. Kallee Cook is the lone Lady Rustler on the squad for now, and she brings back a 7th place finish at the NJCAA Region 9 Championships in 2023 with her. 

Anzaniah Guthrie, Riverton High alumni, is the veteran on the men's squad. Although he didn't make it to nationals last year, Guthrie has his sights set on doing so this year.

Rounding out the Cross Country roster is another runner from Riverton High, freshman Zander Hinkley, who helped the Wolverines to a 3rd place team finish at the 2023 Wyoming 3A Cross Country State Championships.

"Kallee is one of the ones that went to Nationals, so we definitely want to improve upon that and get her times down faster so she can go again," Chatfield said in regard to this year's returners, "Azaniah did not go to nationals this last year, but our goal is definitely to get him there. And look at his times on the courses that he's run and see what kind of PRs we can get."

A late start on the recruiting trail was one of the main factors in the small roster size of three runners, but Coach Chatfield is still open to any runners that may be interested in joining and is looking to grow her men's and women's teams in the next couple of weeks.

The Rustler runners have their first meet on Friday, August 30th, where they'll be traveling to Laramie County Community College and get the opportunity to compete against  Division 1 talent from University of Wyoming as well as other conferences foes.
