Region IX Champions - Lara Named Coach of the Year

The Rustlers travelled to Crete, Nebraska over the weekend to compete at the Region IX Cross Country Championships.  The weather couldn't have been more perfect for the start of the race; 42 degrees and no wind.  The course, held on the Doane College Campus, was favored by all runners.  Both teams showed up to compete; one team leaving with the title of Region IX Champions.

Kenyion Townsend led the men's team with an 8th place finish and a PR (27:32).  This time qualified Townsend for Nationals.  Teammates Jayden Yates and Brayden Kovick also ran qualifying times for Nationals.  The men's team didn't have enough runners to make team standings.  Click here for official men's results.

Trysta Stingley took 3rd place overall on the women's side, running a time of 20:37.  Teammate Paige Flock finished right behind Stingley, with a 4th place finish running a time of 20:39.  The women's team beat Trinidad State College by a single point to take the title of Region IX Champions!  Click here for official women's results.

Coach Al Lara was named Coach of the Year on the women's side at the Region IX Championships.

Up Next:  The Rustlers will head to Albuquerque, New Mexico on November 9th for Nationals.
