CWC Runners Compete at Wyoming Invite

CWC Runners Compete at Wyoming Invite
The CWC Cross Country Teams competed in the Wyoming Invite at the Little America Golf Course in Cheyenne, WY this past weekend.  Both teams competed against strong DI and DII teams including the University of Wyoming, Colorado State University, Texas Tech, Chadron State and South Dakota School of Mines. Colorado Mountain College, a Region IX team, also competed. Every CWC team member who ran completed the 5K race, even though some of them have been working through injuries.  Kallee Cook was the first CWC woman to cross the finish line and Kieran McCorley was the first CWC man to cross the finish line.

"Since our season began on August 14, the team members have logged lots of miles.  I was pleased with the efforts each team member gave and that every runner completed the race.  Each team member was close to meeting their race goals. Now, runners are more confident they can run the distances, and we will continue to log miles while also focusing on increasing speeds," stated Head Coach Lisa Appelhans.

Freshman Kallee Cook had this to say about her first collegiate race: "This week's course was very challenging but it was fun to race!  I love racing and I was grateful for the opportunity to race against all those teams.  I enjoyed competing and I am excited for Leadville."

Quinten Gasaway, a sophomore from Rock Springs, WY had this to say:  "I felt I ran a solid race overall, definitely had a better race than last year.  Although it was a typical 5K golf course race, it's always exciting being able to race against some insane DI schools such as UW, CSU and Texas Tech."

The next race for CWC Cross Country teams is Saturday, September 23, in Leadville, CO.
